How to communicate with AI (Properly)
You can think about Artificial Intelligence as baking a cake.
If you don’t place a proper mold,
the cake will grow crazy in your oven.
However, if you place the ingredients in the right mold, the cake will grow in the right shape as you would like.
The same applies to Artificial Intelligence.
Below, I will be sharing with you some tips on how to effectively communicate with Artificial Intelligence.
With these tips,
you will learn how to prompt AI better than 90% of people.
Be Direct
When interacting with LLMs,
there’s no need for pleasantries such as “please” or “thank you.”
Efficiency is key—get straight to the point to maximize clarity and response effectiveness.
Simplify Complex Tasks
For complex queries, break them down into simpler, manageable tasks. This approach encourages a step-by-step interaction, making it easier for the AI to provide precise answers.
Use Affirmative Language
Focus on what the AI should do rather than what it shouldn’t.
Use direct, affirmative commands like “do this” instead of “don’t do that” to avoid confusion.
Seek Clarity
When clarity is needed, utilize prompts that simplify the explanation:
- “Explain [topic] in simple terms.”
- “Explain like I’m a beginner in [field].”

Incentivize Your Requests
Though not literally applicable,
phrases like “I’m going to tip $xxx for a better solution!” can simulate a scenario where higher quality responses are anticipated.
Use Example-Driven Prompts
Implementing few-shot prompting,
where examples guide the AI, can be highly effective in receiving tailored responses.
Format Your Prompts Clearly
Start your prompts with explicit markers like ‘###Instruction###’ to differentiate instructions from examples or questions.
Direct Commands
Incorporate clear, direct phrases such as “Your task is” and “You MUST” to define expectations unambiguously.
Impose Consequences
Though more theoretical, using phrases like “You will be penalized” can help simulate a scenario where accuracy is critical.
Encourage Natural Responses
Prompt the AI to “Answer a question in a natural, human-like manner” to ensure the responses are relatable and easy to understand.
Promote Unbiased Responses
Add instructions like “Ensure your answer is unbiased and does not rely on stereotypes” to maintain fairness and neutrality.
Facilitate Interactive Dialogue
Encourage the AI to ask questions until it has enough information to provide a comprehensive response.
Include Educational Tests
To gauge your understanding, ask the AI to teach you a topic and quiz you on it without revealing the answers immediately.
Assign Roles to AI
Define specific roles for AI to follow,
enhancing the relevance and focus of the interactions.
For example: Imagine you are an expert in Public Speaking.

Repeat Key Phrases
Repetition of certain words or phrases can emphasize their importance within the prompt, guiding the AI’s focus.
Request Detailed Texts
For detailed explanations, instruct the AI explicitly about the depth and breadth of information required.
Maintain Style in Revisions
When asking for text revisions, specify that the AI should not alter the original style, only improve grammar and vocabulary.
Specify Exact Requirements
Clearly define what the AI must adhere to in its responses,
using specific keywords or instructions.
Emulate Text Styles
When necessary, instruct the AI to mimic the style of a provided text sample closely, ensuring consistency in tone and approach.
By adhering to these principles, you can enhance your interactions with AI, making them more efficient, effective, and aligned with your objectives.
