How to speak slowly while speaking in public

There is an expression in Spanish that I truly love:
Una piedra en el zapato“.

Literally: a stone in the shoe,
that would be something like “A thorn in your flesh”

In my case,
the stone in the shoe, I take it literally.

The reason I am doing that is that I tend to speak fast.

In some cases,
very fast.

What do I do every time I have to deliver “an important” speech?
I place a stone in my shoe.

No joking.
A small stone inside my shoe.
(no worries, it does not hurt)

Why do I do that?
it is “my signal” to tell to my brain:
“Carlos, speak slooooowly”

And believe it or not,
it works.

Really, it does.
