Step by step on how to prepare a speech

For a course that I am attending this week,
I was asked to prepare a speech for the following question.

What is my passion?.

I must say,
that the answer to this question,
it is not so obvious as I could originally think.

What I will write below,
it will be a step-by-step guide of how I prepare a speech,
every time I know I will have to speak in public.

In three steps. Very simple.

Let’s look at it.

The first thing I do,
it is thinking about that one message that I want to pass

In this case,
my message is opposite to Confucius’s quote.
”Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

I would rather say the opposite.

Choose what you are good at,
and try to become the top 5% in that field.

The second thing is jumping into my “go-to document“,
to find notes/information related to the topic that I could use for the speech.

In my go-to document,
I found a story I heard in a podcast,
where Toni Segarra (A Spanish publicist) was saying following:

“Instead of doing what you like, do things, many things.
After doing many things ,
you will find something that you will be good at it.
And by doing something you are good at it,
naturally it will become your passion.

And the third thing,
would be a strong opening linking it to a personal story.

In my case,
I was playing footbal semi-professionaly in Real Oviedo
(we are so close to promote to first division – keep fingers crossed for us)

Football was my passion,
however I was not good enough
 to make it to professional.

I had to choose between,
give it a “try” with football, or trying something else.

As you are reading this email,
you can guess what I chose he he he.

With those three elements,
I would have the base structure of my speech.

Late I would only need to practice,
master the content part,
and finding a strong closing for ending the speech.
